Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a globally recognised approach to the design of safer, more sustainable products made for the circular economy. The approach is intended to replace the traditional use-and-throw-away mindset and introduces the idea of eliminating waste by treating products and materials like infinite resources that can be used again and again in a perpetual loop.

To receive a certification in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle Certified® standards, products are assessed for environmental and social performance across five critical sustainability categories:

• Material health
• Material reuse
• Renewable energy & carbon management
• Water stewardship
• Social fairness

A product is assigned an achievement level (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum) for each category. A product’s lowest category achievement also represents its overall certification level.
